Dog food recipe ingredients:

  • 1lb ground meat
  • 1 1/2 cups brown rice
  • 4 cups finely chopped veggies (carrots, sweet potatoes)
  • 5 cups chicken broth

Dog food recipe directions:

Fry the meat until it's browned through. Add rice and mix well.

Add 3 cups of the broth. Bring to a boil and simmer gently for five minutes.

Add veggies and remaining broth, simmer very gently for about 20 minutes, until broth is absorbed. Add a little more broth if all the liquid cooks off.

Cool and serve, or freeze for later.

I made this recipe using ground deer meat instead, I used 7 cups of chicken broth (very low sodium); for the vegetables, I used zucchini, carrots, lg. sweet potato, celery - just a tad over the 4 cups limit of vegetables. I cooked for 30 minutes with lid covered after a slow simmer for 5 minutes...I really was not sure the brown rice would be cooked in 20 minutes because the rice package said to cook for 55 minutes. I could of used only 6 cups of fluid to cook the recipe. I plan on cooling off in refrigerator, then taking 1/3 cup fulls and freezing on lightly greased wax or aluminum foil...when frozen, freeze in ziplock bags. My dog loved this recipe! He was in the kitchen the entire time! I served 1/3 cup full of the stew and 1/4 cup dry kibble on the side, this fed my little dog without problems. It is really good, I would not mind eating it myself! Thank you so much for the recipe!
