Question:

Is my dog's diarrhea anything to worry about?

answered by Liane O'Hora

Answer:

If diarrhea is the only symptom and it goes away within a day or two, it's likely that your dog simply ate something he shouldn't have.

But if he has any other symptoms, such as vomiting, loss of appetite, or lethargy, if there's blood in the stool, or if the diarrhea is chronic, there may be a more serious problem. If you observe any of these symptoms, definitely contact your vet.

To prevent food-related diarrhea, don't give your dog anything that's gone bad (contrary to popular belief, dog stomachs aren't "tougher" than ours). Keep his diet relatively steady; a lot of variety can cause gastrointestinal upset. And of course, keep the trash off-limits.

Ok, my dog had diarrhea so i fed him white rice with baby food. Now he's constipated and hasn't gone in 2 days? I'm literally at wit's end. What should I do?

  • Hacking

5 days ago I was surprised with a 3 month old adorable female schnauzer. Everything is going great. I took her to her kennels vet for a 72hr. follow up check and was told evertything looked good. She was hacking a lttle when I first got her, and now seems to do it more. Nothing comes up. It hasn't affected her appetite, activity, although it wakes her sometimes. When I mentioned it to the vet, he said she was getting over a cold. Will this pass or should I be concerned? I don't see it getting any better (2 days)
