hey i have noticed recently that my 5 month old australian caddle dog seems to have a few small spots about the size of a quarter where she has nawed her fur off. no red dots on the skin from flea marks and i ve done flea checks. Any ideas? |

She could have what are commonly called a hot spots. These are generally caused by some kind of allegy. Allegies in dogs manifest themselves in dogs by loss of fur and/or sores. I had a Dalmatian allergic to grass and he gnawed on his legs until the fur was gone and he developed large sores. I would take to the vet for a definate diagnosis. If hot spots go untreated they can result in more serious infections, like a staff infection. They can also develop from a small spot to a large one almost overnight. Once you take you dog to the vet and the problem is diagnosed, it can usually be easily controlled with medication or a change of diet. |

hi there. i believe in ivycat’s idea. she could have a skin problem called hot spot. if the infection spreads, hair falls out. if it gets bigger, i think you must your vet before it persists. For more info about skin problems, just check out this dogtime’s link: |
