Indoor dog litter box

Most of you will follow standard housetraining procedures and teach your dogs to go outdoors. Some may also want to set up an indoor dog toilet. But other urban owners with small dogs may want to train their dogs to use an indoor litter box.

There's now a litter on the market that's especially for dogs, called Second Nature. Just keep in mind that if you train your puppy to use a litter box now, you'll have a hard time retraining her if you later decide you want her to go outside.

To litter train, follow the same steps as for housetraining: Keep your puppy in her crate when you're not watching her, release her regularly and take her to her litter box, and praise and reward her for using it.

If you ever want to relocate the litter box to a different spot in the house, move it a few feet each day toward the new spot. If you just move it all at once, the dog may go in the old spot-on the floor.
