I have two cats, both are fixed. They for the most part, live indoors but on nice days I'll sit out in the backyard with them and keep my eye on them. They love exploring and laying in the sun but I don't want them going where I can't see that they're safe. Besides, to me it's quite pointless to have a cat that lives outside because then its a wild animal, not your pet. Why buy a pet then basically set it free if you want a pet?? It just doesn't make sense. I want to enjoy my cats' company and I can't do that if they're outside all the time. It's better for cats to be indoors from all that I've read.

I have many cats, and until I built an outdoor cattery, I lost several to the elements i.e coyotes, cars and hawks maybe even people who didn't like cats. It was heartbreaking. In 2008 I built an outdoor cattery with bales of straw, chicken wire and a bunk bed frame. My cats love to sun themselves, and in the summer trees grow in through the wire. It was inexpensive, about $130.00. This year I hope to improve it.
