A Dobie in the land of adobe

Dispatch from the Santa Fe Humane Society shelter, August 21, 2009

It's no secret I have a thing for Dobermans. This beautiful guy arrived as a stray, a little skinny, a little timid. But after I was ten seconds in his kennel with him, he began to warm up.

Dobies are often shy and lacking the confidence one might assume innate in a large breed dog--I think that vulnerability is what draws me to them.

Serious, soulful dog (with totally silly ears)

After ten minutes in his kennel, I had him eating out of my hand. If only it were that easy with all tall, gorgeous brunettes.
