Most dog breeds, if raised with children and given the appropriate training, have the potential to be kid-friendly companions. However there are some breeds whose general characteristics make them naturally more adaptable to sharing their lives with small humans.

While many large breeds may be sweet and affectionate they can unintentionally be dangerous around small children due to the dog's size and strength. That is why many pet owners prefer to adopt small dogs with calm, patient, non-aggressive temperaments. We've compiled a list of just a few of the breeds who fall into this category.

I travel selling pet supplies at flea markets, pet shows, etc. across 2 states, and my 2 Schipperke's travel with me. They are extremely people, child and pet oriented, and just a tad spoiled. :)

I'm heartbroken. My sweet and gentle shnoodle, whom I adopted (she's about 3 yrs.) is petrified of children. My grandkids can't get near her....even with being gentle.
