neioewapetrescue

I started an animal rescue in NE Iowa a little over a year ago (April 2007). Since that time, I have successfully re-homed 100 dogs and cats - yea!! I am basically the only person doing this rescue, as I find volunteer homes to be few and far between. I do have a couple of foster homes that help out, which is a blessing!

This is a no-kill rescue, so the animals will remain with me until a home is found for them. There is always someone out there for that dog or cat, it may just take time to find that person. We don't give up!!

I will be posting pictures of the rescue dogs, both past and present, in hopes of finding homes for the dogs remaining in our rescue.

Please feel free to contact me, either by email (neiowapetrescue@aol.com) or by phone (563-933-5001) between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

What I like about my dog

My 3 dogs are the best! They are part of our family and they know it...

What my dog likes best about me

That I take care of them and provide housing, food, exercise and treats!!

People I've met through my dog

Numerous

If I didn't have a dog, I'd like a...

puppy....that would grow into a dog.

animal friends

Sandy

Sandy

  • Lab and Golden Retriever
  • 9 years (68 dog years)
  • Sandy, Poop, Pooper
  • High five with both feet
  • Hoarding the food
  • As a surprise for my husband
  • I got Sandy for my husband as he had had this cross breed of dog as a kid growing up. She and hubby were the best of buddies - she loved to go boating, fishing, running through the woods, anything just so long as she's with her "daddy". The older she gets, the less she enjoys riding in the car or running through the woods and has turned into "mom's dog".

Dakota

Dakota

  • Yellow Lab and Golden Retriever
  • 6 years (47 dog years)
  • Kota, Koty, Koters
  • Ummmm...she loves to EAT
  • Ummmm....she loves to EAT
  • She chose me. Her mother died when the pups were 24 hrs old and my friend needed someone to hand raise the pups. Enter Debbie Doolittle!!
  • My friend had the female dog, who was actually Sandy's mother. She had the litter of pups and then died during the night. Needing someone to hand-raise the 6 pups, enter Debbie Doolittle~~!! Sandy and Moose helped raise these beautiful 6 pups and when it was time to find them homes, I knew Dakota was staying with me.

Dakota has the funny characteristics of the yellow lab and is extremely sensitive by nature. She's a true cuddle-bug!

Brandy (Moose)

Brandy (Moose)

  • Lab and Golden Retriever
  • 8 years (57 dog years)
  • Moose. Only answers to Moose.
  • She doesn't really have any tricks. She just amazes us with all of her antics!
  • Laser lights....chases anything that lights up
  • Got her when she was 6 months old and we were her 4th owners. We got her as a companion to Sandy.
  • I saw Moose advertised in the paper for free, so I went to look at her. She jumped right in the back of the Jeep and was ready to head for home! We were her 4th owners (she was only 6 months old!!) and she had some issues to get over. I still cannot touch her toe nails!

First time we took her to the cabin and I was doing some target practice across the pond at trees. Moose was sitting beside my husband. When I emptied the clip, my husband told Moose (jokingly) "go get 'em". Without hesitation, she jumped in the pond, swam out to the middle and retrieved the duck decoy!! PRICELESS~~!!
